HISTORY

Built by the Irish, the Saint Patrick’s Chapel has been open since its foundation, both to members of the community and to anyone who wants to make use of it.

The Irish, faithful to their traditional faith and driven by a desire to find a place to meet and share a sense of belonging, envisioned the idea of forming an association that would contain a chapel with their parish house, in accordance with the first article of the Association's statute: "To spread the Christian faith and to open the chapel to all who need it". Thus, having the property, permission was sought from the Curia, which was in the city of Santa Fe, to bring a priest from Ireland to shelter all those emigrants and descendants. That is how Father John Sheehy arrived, who carried out important evangelizing labor, being loved and respected by all. By this time the chapel became the first to give donations for welfare work in China.
